Beginning with a fascinating account of the background of the forest, the trees themselves, soil and climatic conditions, the author describes the flowers and fungi, the birds, animals and insects of the woodlands, showing their important influence on the life of the forest and on the work of the forester. Illustrated throughout with black and white photographs and line drawings. This book is showing its age with staining on its light grey boards and spotting on the front and base of the text block . There is also an owners name and address on the fep. The D/J has tears with chipping on the head and base of the spine and is covered in protective plastic. Still a good reading copy.
